I promise I won't be only reviewing Phillip's beers... its just that they come so fast and so many! This is their 9th anniversary beer and it certainly is a beer for Hopheads! There are 9 types of hops in this sucker: Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Palisade, Amarillo, Citra, Millenium, Hallertauer and Simcoe. I wish more Canadian breweries would print what hops they used and what IBU the beer is! Sadly, 9 Donkeys does not show IBU's, but I would imagine it is in the 90+ range.
Beer: 9 Donkeys of the Hopocalypse
Brewer: Phillips
Sampled: August 28th, 2010
ABV: 9%
Rating: 7/10
Presentation 2/2 - Clear, head stays around and a nice amber in colour.
Nose 2/2 - Strong spicy and pine nose.
Taste 3/4 - Strong hop content, hops linger, but quite aggressive and not balanced with malt
Drinkability 0/1 - Not this beer's strong point.
Package/Name Creativity 0/1 - They are trying too hard... if I can't say the name, and am not excited about it, it gets the 0 for the bonus.
